Hurricanes set for busy weekend at home

November 15, 2018

The Holland Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams will return home for back-to-back days of ACAA regular season play, after playing their last three games on the road.  The ‘Canes will host the Dal AC Rams on Saturday with games taking place at 12 and 2pm (w/m), before welcoming the UKC Blue Devils on Sunday at 2 and 4pm.

The Hurricanes women’s team enters play with a 1-3 record after a win last weekend over the Crandall Chargers and a loss at the hands of the STU Tommies. The Hurricanes sit in a tie for fifth place in the ACAA standings early this season.

The ‘Canes opponents on Saturday, the Dal AC Rams, enter the weekend with a 0-2 record while their Sunday opponents, the UKC Blue Devils, are 1-2 and part of the three-way tie for fifth with the ‘Canes.

This will be the first time the ‘Canes have played either of these teams this season.

The ‘Canes currently sit second in the conference in scoring, averaging 61 points per game, led by Lexi MacInnis, who is second in points per game with 16.5. MacInnis is joined in the top-10 by teammates Jayla Verney (13.3) and Ashley Plaggenhoef (11.5).

Tyleigha Nelson currently leads the ACAA with 10.8 rebounds per game, with Kassandra Little sitting in eighth with 7.0.

The Hurricanes men’s team enters play atop the ACAA standings with a 4-0 record after sweeping their games against Crandall and STU last weekend on the road.

The Rams enter the weekend as one of three winless teams in the ACAA with an 0-2 record while the Blue Devils are 2-1 and tied for third. This will be the first time the ‘Canes have played the Rams or Blue Devils this season.

The Hurricanes offense is firing on all cylinders to begin the regular season as they lead the ACAA, averaging 111.3 points per game, led by Jace Colley with 27.3 (best in the ACAA). Colley is joined in the top-10 by Martin Campbell (18.0) and Jordan Holness (17.5)

Roosevelt Whyley leads the ACAA with 12.0 rebounds per game with Colley (9.3) and Holness (7.3) joining him in the top-10.
